Inspiration

Too many tabs, tools, and time wasted switching between summarizers, translators, and grammar checkers. Needed one fast, private AI tool inside Chrome.

What it does

Summarizes, proofreads, rewrites, and translates selected text directly in Chrome using built-in Gemini Nano AI. Works offline and keeps data private.

How we built it

Built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Manifest V3, and Chrome Built-in AI APIs — Summarizer, Proofreader, Translator, and Rewriter.

Challenges we ran into

Limited docs for new Chrome AI APIs, handling long text, maintaining fast response, and designing a clean popup UI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a fully offline, privacy-first Chrome AI assistant that feels native, fast, and lightweight.

What we learned

Learned on-device AI integration, Chrome extension architecture, and optimizing Gemini Nano APIs for real-time results.

What's next for SmartPage – AI Web Companion

Add multimodal support with Prompt API, image/audio summarization, and a save feature for user summaries.
