Inspiration

Reddit moderators often spend a lot of time manually reviewing spam, scams, and repeated harmful posts. We wanted to create a simple AI-assisted moderation tool that could help moderators detect suspicious content faster and reduce moderation workload.

What it does

SmartMod AI analyzes post text to detect spam and suspicious promotional content. It tracks repeat offenders, stores moderation history, provides moderation alerts, and suggests actions such as moderator review or temporary bans. The app also includes voice feedback for quick moderation assistance.

How we built it

We built SmartMod AI using Reddit Devvit, React, TypeScript, and Devvit WebView components. The moderation dashboard was designed with a custom UI that allows moderators to test and review suspicious content directly inside the app.

Challenges we ran into

We faced issues with Devvit setup, API key integration, playtest configuration, UI rendering, and debugging TypeScript errors. Managing app deployment and authentication during development was also challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built a working Devvit moderation tool with spam detection, repeat offender tracking, moderation history, warning systems, and voice alerts. We also created a clean and functional moderation dashboard for moderators

What we learned

We learned how to build applications using Devvit, manage React and TypeScript workflows, debug deployment issues, and design moderation-focused user experiences for Reddit communities.

What's next for SmartMod AI

We plan to integrate advanced AI moderation models, real-time Reddit post monitoring, automatic moderation actions, improved analytics, and smarter community safety tools for moderators.
