About the Project
What Inspired Us
The idea for SmartMed Secure Health Data System came from a simple question: Why is healthcare still struggling with fragmented and insecure data in the digital age? Patients deserve control over their health records, and doctors need seamless access to the right information at the right time. With the rise of blockchain and AI, we saw an opportunity to solve this long-standing problem in a way that prioritizes both security and efficiency.
What We Learned
Through this project, we gained insights into:
- The challenges healthcare systems face in achieving interoperability.
- How blockchain technology can redefine data security in healthcare.
- The power of AI to transform raw medical data into life-saving insights.
We also developed a deeper appreciation for the complexity of healthcare data standards and the importance of patient-centric design.
How We Built It
We started with research, diving deep into blockchain frameworks and healthcare regulations. We chose Polygon for its scalability and cost-effectiveness and integrated AI algorithms for natural language processing to analyze health records.
- Blockchain Deployment: Implemented a decentralized ledger to store and manage health data.
- Web Interface: Built a user-friendly platform using React to make it easy for patients and providers to access and control records.
- AI Integration: Developed machine learning models that process structured and unstructured data for real-time insights.
- Interoperability Standards: Ensured compatibility with existing systems by adhering to HL7 FHIR protocols.
Challenges We Faced
Building a project in the healthcare space meant tackling several tough challenges:
- Data Security Compliance: Ensuring that our system met strict regulations like HIPAA without compromising usability.
- Interoperability: Bridging the gap between existing fragmented systems and our blockchain-powered solution.
- Balancing Complexity and Accessibility: Designing a system robust enough for healthcare providers but simple enough for patients to use.
- Scalability: Creating a system that can handle large-scale adoption without sacrificing performance.
