What it does
Home Security System with Access Control
LCD: A display that will include messages, such as "System Armed", "Access Granted", or "Intruder Alert", along with the time and date.
Sensors: An RFID reader for secure entry and a PIR motion sensor to detect movement and sound an alarm in case the system is armed.
Actuator: A servo motor to control a lock mechanism, and perhaps a buzzer or alarm system that activates if unauthorized entry is detected.
Physical Prototype: The whole system could be housed in a sleek, secure box, possibly laser cut, or 3D printed. The RFID reader could be mounted outside the door, with the LCD and control buttons on the inside. The servo and lock mechanism would be mounted on the door itself.
How we built it
We used our Arduino kits and 3D printed the parts that were required for the bolt and to hold the servo motor.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, we did not have enough ports for all of our senses in our Arduino and we had to order and learn how to work with the port extender. We also had some issues with connecting the motor with the bot as we wanted to use glue which we realized wasn't the optimal solution.
What's next for SmartLock
There are so many potential directions but our next step would be to find a way to make it more compact so tha it can actually be installed outside of a door.
