Inspiration

With the rush of everyday life, the need for a simple and effective way to organize your time/events has never been greater. We aspire for our users to become more organized people through the usage of this app. Staying organized can help to reduce stress, boost confidence, and help you manage your activities/events/deadlines more effectively.

What it does

The app consists of three main sections which includes a to-do list, a calendar, and add a reminder. Adding an item to the To-do list will display a list of all the reminders. When entering a reminder into the add reminder section, the reminder will show up on the calendar. Clicking on Calendar will display a Calendar plus a list with reminders and events.

How we built it

We built this program through the use of MIT app inventor. Each member of the group was assigned a specific section to focus on and all of the team members were working virtually from their own homes.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into include not knowing how App inventor worked (not being able to learn about the application in a classroom setting), facing internet issues, merging portions of the app together, lack of technology available (not having an Android device because we were virtual), limited time to work and having to work virtually to name a few. We addressed these issues by watching a number of MIT training videos, watching the recorded Lenovo-NAF webinars, creating a shared Google Doc that we use to communicate with each other, and scheduling additional meeting times to work on the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to produce a successful application virtually while facing numerous technical challenges. This is because we had to adapt to different conditions and circumstances which might have impacted the outcome of our application. In addition, we are proud of producing an app that helps users develop vital life skills related to time management and organization.

What we learned

We learned how to produce an application through a different platform, and how to overcome numerous hurdles which come from working virtually. We also learned and developed time management skills through the production of this app, because of the deadline we had to submit the app.

What's next for Smart Planner

In the future, we hope to improve our app by making it more user-friendly and easier to understand. We also hope to incorporate more features into our app.
