Inspiration
Thinking about the tedious process that patients go through in order to have some medical sample test is the main motivation that brought us to think about this problem. A lot of time inefficiencies are taking place in this process.
What it does
Our solution is a platform whose main mission is to minimize the overhead that patients go through in the sample-taking process. So, it brings together clinical testing labs and patients to make the communication process faster and more efficient. It all goes like this: a patient needing to have his medical samples analyzed has to use our mobile application to look for near labs supporting the medical sample analysis tests that the lab supports. The patient can see the available times to make his appointment. Highly skilled agents are sent to the concerned home to take the samples back to the analysis lab. The patient can follow all the updates about the sample's current status and receive the test results once they are available via our mobile application. The special thing here is that the patient can have an instantaneous interpretation of their test results using AI.
How we built it
Our platform is mainly a web application supported by a mobile application. We used Spring Boot with Java to build the backend, MySql for the database, Android Studio for the patient mobile app, and React for the lab control web application.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we ran into is to find a viable solution that we can rely on to interpret the medical tests. Reading many and many articles online, we figured out that the AI models can be considered to be the best solution available to us at the current time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Working on three applications at the same time and taking them to a status of about 80% completeness.

Every idea can be adapted to solve many problems at a time.
What's next for SmartLabs
The next level for our platform is to become the standard in the field of medical sample analysis. We are looking to collect data that can help us to power Data Science and AI based solutions to get the medicine industry to the next level in Algeria.
