Inspiration
In Nigeria, many people want to live healthy lives but can't afford regular visits to the doctor—or simply don’t have the time. Long hospital queues, expensive checkups, and overcrowded clinics make it difficult for everyday Nigerians to get the health guidance they need. That’s what inspired SmartHealth: a digital health companion that gives people access to affordable medical advice, healthy meal plans, and wellness tools—all from their phone, without leaving home.
💡 What It Does

SmartHealth helps Nigerians stay healthy without hospital stress. It offers:

- Healthy meal plans for your goals and lifestyle
- Blood pressure estimation using your age, job type, and recent activity—no machine needed
- Chat with an AI GP (doctor) for advice
- Voice doctor feature with realistic audio responses (for Pro+ users)
- Smart accessory store (watches, BP monitors, fitness trackers)
- Discounts for Pro+ users, plus email receipts after payment
Whether you're a student, a tailor in Lagos, or a bus driver in Kaduna—SmartHealth was designed for you.
🛠️ How We Built It
We started with Bolt.new for rapid development, then extended the platform with:
- GPT-4o from Azure OpenAI for medical chat and advice
- ElevenLabs for AI voice doctor
- Paystack for local Nigerian payments
- Gmail SMTP for receipt emails
- Vite + Tailwind for a smooth frontend
- .env-secured backend for clean key management
⚠️ Challenges We Ran Into
- Hosting challenges on platforms that didn’t support environment secrets well
- Testing email delivery on Gmail using app passwords
- Building a checkout system that could handle tiered pricing + accessory discounts
- Balancing simplicity with powerful AI features
🏆 Accomplishments We're Proud Of
- Designed a working solution for real Nigerians
- Integrated voice GP—feels human, not robotic
- Added real product shopping and Paystack payment
- Created a receipt system that builds trust
- The app works on basic mobile browsers—no app download needed
📚 What We Learned
- People want health help, not complexity
- Voice matters—people feel more connected hearing a “doctor” speak
- Email receipts increase user trust
- Even low-cost health tools (like smart bottles and posture correctors) can change lives
🚀 What’s Next for SmartHealth
- Translate into local languages (Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa)
- Add free first-use trials for meal plans and BP checks
- Partner with local pharmacies for delivery
- Build an offline-first PWA (progressive web app)
- Launch in universities, NYSC camps, and rural clinics
- Add integration with NIN or NHIS for long-term healthcare sync
- Host live wellness Q&A sessions weekly with AI moderation
❤️ Final Thought
SmartHealth is both a web app and a hope in your pocket. For the Nigerian who can’t afford a hospital bill, or the mother who waits hours at a clinic, this is a better way forward.
