Inspiration

The inspiration behind this app stemmed from the desire to simplify meal planning and tracking while promoting healthier eating habits. We wanted to create a solution that not only personalized meal plans based on individual characteristics and preferences but also offered a convenient way to track nutritional intake using AI technology.

What it does

The app generates personalized breakfast, lunch, and dinner plans for each day, taking into account factors such as height, weight, dietary preferences, and food preferences inputted by the user. Additionally, users can take pictures of their meals, and the AI automatically analyzes the food to generate macronutrient information. The app also records a history of meals for users to review at any time, allowing them to keep track of their meal plan as needed.

How we built it

We utilized a combination of Android Studio for the frontend development and the Gemini API for backend functionality, particularly for image recognition and nutritional analysis.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we encountered was developing robust algorithms for meal planning and image recognition that could accurately account for individual preferences and dietary requirements.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we built a working app in less than 48 hours!

What we learned

We learned the importance of prompt engineering when guiding the AI to output different meal plans. The best results came from crafting clear, concise prompts.

What's next for SmartForks

In the future, we mainly hope to enhance the app's appearance to be more user-friendly and appealing. Later, we hope to expand functionality. This includes expanding the database of recipes, improving the accuracy of nutritional analysis (adjusting the portion size, etc), and exploring additional ways to support users in achieving their health and wellness goals. Additionally, we aim to optimize the app for scalability and usability across both Apple and Android devices to reach a wider audience.
