Inspiration
We wanted to solve the healthcare issues that are being experienced by Medicare beneficiaries and providers. Many Medicare beneficiaries are suffering from Multiple chronic conditions such as COPD, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes etc., As a result, healthcare industry is facing problems such as Higher mortality rate, ER Readmissions, Emergency Room Visit Higher cost.
What it does
We wanted to build an app called Coordinated Care Plan for the patients who can share their own data with EHR vendors.
How we built it
We have used HAPI-FHIR API to convert the data from the vendor into FHIR standard. We have exposed FHIR Services which wraps the call to Vendor API to fetch data.
Challenges we ran into
This is our first FHIR App. So we ran into challenges such as finding appropriate FHIR resources and understanding the vendor API to fetch the data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a working prototype that communicates with vendor API and exposing the data through FHIR Service.
What we learned
Now we have an understanding of FHIR resources and how they can be used to solve the interoperability issues that the healthcare industry is facing.
What's next for SmartFHIR
We can create a FHIR Bus to support multiple vendors.
