🌾 About the Project – SmartFasal 💡 Inspiration SmartFasal was inspired by the real‑world challenges farmers face while selling crops. Due to lack of real‑time price visibility, middlemen control, delayed mandi updates, and the risk of crop spoilage after harvest, farmers are often forced to sell at low prices. We wanted to build a solution that helps farmers make informed selling decisions instead of forced ones. 🧠 What We Learned We learned that the biggest problem is not buyer availability, but decision‑making under pressure. Farmers need simple, trustworthy insights rather than complex data. Designing for low digital literacy and real constraints like time, debt, and spoilage was key. 🛠️ How We Built It SmartFasal is a mobile‑friendly web application built to demonstrate the complete farmer selling workflow. Next.js, Tailwind CSS, ShadCN UI Recharts for price visualization Mock data with API‑ready architecture Deployed on Vercel The system is designed to scale with real mandi, buyer, and weather APIs in future phases. ⚙️ How It Works Farmers log in to view location‑based crop prices, check quality‑based rates, see buyer demand, and receive sell or wait recommendations. They can then connect directly with buyers, reducing dependence on middlemen. 🚧 Challenges Faced Major challenges included limited access to real‑time data, designing for low‑literacy users, and prioritizing impactful features within a limited hackathon timeframe. 🌱 Conclusion SmartFasal is a farmer‑first decision support platform that aims to improve price transparency, reduce forced selling, and increase farmer income through better timing and market access.
