Inspiration

With the rising challenges of climate change and food security, we were motivated to create smartfarm—a tech-driven solution to empower farmers with real-time data and automation. Our goal: to make agriculture more sustainable, efficient, and accessible for everyone.

What It Does

smartfarm combines sensor-based monitoring, AI predictions, and remote control systems. It tracks soil moisture, temperature, and crop health while sending insights to farmers through a mobile dashboard. It can also automate irrigation and recommend optimal sowing and harvesting times.

🛠️ How We Built It

We used Arduino-based microcontrollers for hardware, integrated sensor modules, and built the dashboard using React and Firebase. AI models were trained on agricultural datasets to offer decision support for crop management.

🧗 Challenges We Ran Into

  • Ensuring accurate sensor data across various climates and crops
  • Integrating offline functionality in areas with limited internet access
  • Balancing affordability with high-tech features

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

  • Built a working prototype within three weeks
  • Received positive feedback from local farmers during testing
  • Achieved 20% water savings during pilot irrigation cycles

What We Learned

  • How crucial UX is in rural tech adoption
  • Effective data preprocessing for real-time analytics
  • The importance of modular design in scaling IoT systems

What’s Next for smartfarm

We aim to:

  • Expand into new crop categories
  • Improve pest detection with machine vision
  • Partner with agri-tech incubators for further development
