Inspiration
Contact tracing and devices that help with physical distancing are good ideas, but limited because they either passively collect information for after-the-fact analysis, or need both parties to have the same hardware to work in real-time.
What it does
Our project aims at using existing Bluetooth technology to make physical distancing easier for everyone, by real-time feedback:
- An app which sends you notifications whenever someone is too close (<2m/6ft) for too long (>1mn)
- A connected LED badge that signals people around you they are at safe distance or too close
How we built it
- App: React Native, cross-platform, with BLE capability
- Badge: Adafruit CircuitPlayground, BLE capability and LEDs
Challenges we ran into
Time!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a working prototype and a good explanatory video, which we hope will serve our project well.
What we learned
The existing tech solutions around COVID-19 and how to ideate around what people might really need.
What's next for SmartDistancing
We are hoping to develop the technology to make everyone able to use it
