Inspiration
Our inspiration for SmartAgriFlow came from the challenges farmers face in managing irrigation. Farmers often have to visit their fields to check soil moisture and manually operate water pumps. This can lead to unnecessary water usage, electricity wastage and extra effort.
We wanted to explore how technology could make irrigation easier and more efficient. By combining IoT, soil moisture sensors and automatic pump control, we aim to help farmers monitor their fields and provide water only when needed.
Our goal is to contribute to water conservation and make agriculture more sustainable through a simple and affordable technology-based solution.
What it does
SmartAgriFlow is an IoT-based irrigation system that monitors soil moisture and helps automate the watering process.
The system uses soil moisture sensors connected to an ESP32 microcontroller to check the moisture levels in the soil. Based on predefined moisture thresholds, it can automatically turn the irrigation pump on or off.
Key features include:
- Soil Moisture Monitoring: Measures soil moisture levels using sensors.
- Automatic Irrigation: Controls the water pump based on soil moisture readings.
- Manual Control: Allows farmers to control irrigation through a web or mobile interface.
- Water Flow Monitoring: Tracks water flow to identify unusual usage.
- Multiple Zone Monitoring: Supports monitoring different areas of a field independently.
- Dashboard: Displays sensor readings and irrigation status.
- Water Conservation: Aims to reduce unnecessary watering and improve irrigation efficiency.
How we built it
We designed SmartAgriFlow by combining IoT hardware with a simple software interface.
The ESP32 microcontroller acts as the main controller and collects data from soil moisture sensors placed in different field zones. A water flow sensor is used to monitor the amount of water flowing through the irrigation system.
We plan to program the ESP32 using Arduino IDE and C/C++. Based on predefined soil moisture thresholds, the system will automatically control a small water pump.
For the software component, we are developing a web dashboard using HTML, CSS and JavaScript to display sensor readings and irrigation status. We also plan to provide manual irrigation control through the interface.
We are building the project step by step, starting with sensor readings and basic pump automation, followed by dashboard integration and multiple-zone monitoring.
