Inspiration

We looked at the data give and the challenges provided. Using this information, we concluded that analyzing traffic information would be a great use of the data provided that also beautifully satisfied that challenge.

What it does

Smarta takes in real-time traffic data from a number of geo-points around the city and aggregates them, allowing the user to view the data over a period of time. It shows them how traffic is like at particular points in the present, what it was like in the past, and allows them to extrapolation how traffic trends could develop in the future.

How we built it

Nathan Goodman built the front-end using Javascript and Angular, Ilya Mayzus build the back end using Python and Flask, and Felippe Cronemberger helped with the design and did the business side of things.

Challenges we ran into

Cross-side scripting issues (how dare web browsers try to be secure!), difficulty getting the data into a usable format, and Angular deciding not to work for no reason from time to time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We build a functional app in under 24 hours. That's pretty !@#ing awesome!

What we learned

Data manipulation is harder than it seems, learning things at hackathons is great because of yay learning, but also a massive waste of precious time.

What's next for Smarta

Given more time and resources, we thing we could fix the remaining bugs, add new features (like more displays and more kinds of traffic data), and make this app into something great!
