❄️ Snow Fest: Smart Winter Safety & Experience Platform

💡 Inspiration

Snow festivals bring together culture, adventure, and celebration, but they also introduce unique challenges such as extreme weather, slippery terrain, overcrowding, and limited access to real-time information. We were inspired by real-world incidents where visitors faced difficulty navigating snowy areas, missed important safety alerts, or struggled to find event activities during peak hours.

Our motivation was to build a single intelligent platform that could act as a digital companion for both visitors and organizers—enhancing safety, accessibility, and overall enjoyment at snow festivals.

🛠️ How We Built the Project

We designed the system as a web-based smart assistant platform with a modular architecture:

  • Frontend: Responsive web interface for visitors to view alerts, schedules, and navigation.
  • Backend: REST APIs to handle user requests, event data, and alert distribution.
  • AI Layer: Used an AI model to generate personalized event recommendations and safety tips based on weather and crowd conditions.
  • Data Integration: Simulated real-time inputs such as temperature, snowfall intensity, and crowd density.

We implemented rule-based logic and AI-driven insights to prioritize safety alerts. For example, when the temperature drops below a critical threshold ( T < -10^\circ C ), the system triggers cold-exposure warnings.

This helped us dynamically classify risk levels as Low, Moderate, or High.

📚 What We Learned

  • Designing for extreme environmental conditions requires prioritizing clarity and speed over complexity.
  • AI is most effective when combined with simple, explainable logic.
  • Building user-centric systems means considering diverse users, including elderly visitors and first-time attendees.
  • Clear communication between frontend and backend is critical in time-sensitive applications.

🚧 Challenges We Faced

  • Simulating real-time data without live sensors or APIs.
  • Balancing feature richness with simplicity in a hackathon timeframe.
  • Ensuring the platform remained usable in low-connectivity scenarios common in snowy regions.
  • Integrating AI outputs in a way that felt helpful rather than overwhelming.

Despite these challenges, iterative testing and focused feature selection helped us deliver a functional and impactful prototype.

🌟 Conclusion

Snow Fest demonstrates how technology can transform winter events into safer, smarter, and more inclusive experiences. By combining real-time insights, AI-driven recommendations, and user-friendly design, our project lays the foundation for future smart festival ecosystems.
