Inspiration
Floods can cause severe damage to communities and make it difficult for people to access emergency support, food, medicine, shelter, and other essential resources. We were inspired by the need for a centralized system that could connect affected people, relief camps, volunteers, and resources during flood emergencies. This motivated us to develop the Smart Web-Based Flood Emergency Response and Relief Management System.
What We Learned
Through this project, we learned how technology can support emergency management and improve coordination during disasters. We gained practical experience in web development, database management, location-based services, API integration, and user-centered design. We also learned how to convert a real-world problem into a functional software solution.
How We Built It
We designed a web-based platform that brings important flood-relief activities into one system. The platform supports beneficiary registration, relief camp information, resource management, volunteer coordination, emergency assistance, and location-based services.
We integrated location and map functionality to help users identify nearby relief camps and understand the distance between their current location and available support centers. The system uses a centralized database to organize beneficiary and resource information, helping relief teams manage information more efficiently.
Challenges We Faced
One of our major challenges was integrating real-time location and map services into the web application. We also faced difficulties with API configuration, frontend-backend integration, database connectivity, and debugging development dependencies.
Another challenge was designing the system so that different users could easily access the information they need during an emergency. We addressed these challenges through continuous testing, debugging, research, and teamwork.
Impact
Our goal is to provide a simple and centralized digital platform that can improve communication, coordination, resource distribution, and emergency response during flood situations. The system can help affected people find support while enabling relief teams to manage resources and beneficiaries more effectively.
