Inspiration
I come from sustainable living obsessed family. We have plants in every room and on every floor of our house. We collect all the biodegradable waste(vegetable peels, egg shells, water after washing vegetables or grains, etc.) in our house and make compost out of it for our garden. My parents are both working and both of us sisters are in college and school most of the day. Maintaining a garden can be a add-on task in this hustle, but my mom being a fierce and passionate nature lover goes out of way to make sure that the garden stays alive and happy and that there is as minimum generation of waste as possible.
What it does
This is a three part project:
- First, automating the watering system. It might not seem like much but sprinklers aren't that common in independant houses in India and getting them on all floors is more resource consuming.
- Second, A way to switch pipes and navigate the nutritious water from washing grains and vegetables directly to the garden.
- Three, enabling scalability, that is to be able to add more floors and spaces to the system.
How we built it
We are building it using arduino MKR, Raspberry pi and firebase.
Challenges we ran into
We have never tried to unify these platforms below and are still working towards a smoother system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First, it's always an achievement when we siblings work together without bringing the whole place down, so that, but jokes apart, we both have different ways of implementing things and it was a lot of fun pulling and puting things together for this project.
