Inspiration
Poor waste management causes overflowing bins, pollution, and health risks. We wanted to build a smart solution that helps monitor waste levels in real time and improves collection efficiency, making cities cleaner and more sustainable.
What it does
The Smart Waste Management System monitors the fill level of waste bins using sensors. When a bin is full, it sends an alert to the authorities. The system also helps optimize waste collection routes, reducing fuel consumption, saving time, and preventing overflowing bins.
How we built it
We designed the project using IoT sensors, a microcontroller, and a web dashboard. The software was developed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a database to display real-time bin status and notifications.
Challenges we faced
- Ensuring accurate sensor readings.
- Managing real-time data updates.
- Designing a simple and user-friendly interface.
What we learned
We learned about IoT, web development, sensor integration, teamwork, and solving real-world environmental problems through technology.
Future scope
In the future, we plan to add AI-based waste prediction, GPS-enabled route optimization, and a mobile application for real-time monitoring and notifications.
