Inspiration
Finding a vehicle for rent is often difficult,time-consuming,and lacks transparency.Many people struggle to find reliable rental services,while vehicle owners have limited ways to manage and rent out their vehicles efficiently. We wanted to create a platform that makes vehicle rentals simple,secure and accessible for everyone. This idea inspired us to build Smart Vehicle Rental Service.
What it does
Smart Vehicle Rental Service is a digital platform that connects vehicle owners and users through a secure rental system. Vehicle owners can register and list their vehicles,while users can browse,book, and rent vehicles easily. The platform also provides booking management,user verification,complaint handling,ratings,and transparent rental operations.
How we built it
We developed the frontend using React 18, Vite, Tailwind CSS, and React Query to create a fast and responsive user experience. The backend was built with Spring Boot 3 and Java 17,exposing secure REST APIs for all platform operations. For authentication and user management,we integrated AWS Cognito,ensuring secure access control and user verification. The application data is stored in MySQL hosted on AWS RDS,while the entire backend is deployed on AWS EC2 for reliability and scalability. We also integrated AWS SES to send email notifications and updates to users. By combining modern web technologies with AWS cloud services,we built a secure,scalable and user-friendly vehicle rental platform.
Challenges we ran into
One of the major challenges was designing a system that could efficiently handle multiple user roles, including renters,vehicle owners,and administrators. We also faced challenges in managing vehicle availability, preventing booking conflicts, designing secure authentication mechanisms, and creating a database structure capable of supporting future growth.Balancing security,performance and user experience was another important challenge throughout development.

What we learned
Through this project, we gained valuable hands-on experience in building a full-stack web application using modern technologies and cloud services. We learned how to develop scalable backend APIs with Spring Boot, create responsive user interfaces using React, and manage data efficiently using MySQL. We also gained practical knowledge of AWS services such as Cognito for secure user authentication, SES for email notifications,EC2 for application deployment and RDS for database management. Beyond the technical aspects,we learned the importance of system design,security,teamwork,and solving real-world problems through technology.
What's next for Smart Vehicle rental service
In the future, we plan to introduce mobile applications,advanced analytics,AI-based vehicle recommendations,real-time tracking and enhanced verification mechanisms. Our goal is to transform the platform into a complete mobility solution that provides a seamless and trusted rental experience for both vehicle owners and users.
