Inspiration

We were inspired by the recent Winter Storm that occurred in Texas. We were concerned about people's inability to reach to loved ones or emergency services during power outages.

What it does

Using a low powered emergency communication device , we can send and receive data from the web app.

How we built it

We built our project using an ESP-8266 with on board Arduino code that talks to a web app hosted on firebase.

Challenges we ran into

We faced a major challenge in establishing API connection to the web server. Also, we did not have a soldering iron which hindered ability to connect the electrical components in a professional manner.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our low cost hardware and software integration. Also, we are proud of our motive, for we saw how many people struggled with lack of electricity in Texas. Our team also worked with many technologies with which group members were not familiar with.

What we learned

We learned how to make http request from a micro controller. We also learned how to control APIs using a hardware.

What's next for Smart Sign

We want to integrate weather, google calendar and capital bank APIs in our web app.
