Inspiration
This school year is a continuation of the wonky online learning we experienced at the end of last school year. We really wanted to be able to create something that would help lessen the stress and confusion that comes from suddenly managing everything online as students. This app is our contribution to that cause.
What it does
This app is a culmination of all online schooling tools all put into one place for the convenience of its users. It allows students to add the classes that they have, and they show up daily, along with a join button which redirects the user to the online class platform.
How we built it
We used Thunkable, an online app creating tool which uses block coding and simple display features to design an app.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to learn the functions that Thunkable provides in 24 hours. There were times when we wanted to implement things like objects and classes like in java, but we were unable to with Thunkable, limiting our ability to create things like storing all the information of one class at a time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the small things - the satisfaction when our program worked the way it should have is unparalleled. It's even better since it was our first time with this app, and having our very first project work out is a great feeling.
What we learned
Since we are still fairly new to hackathons, and we don't exactly have all of the coding knowledge we would need to excel in these events, I think the most valuable thing we learned was how to make use of our resources. We had to teach ourselves the programming, so adapting and accommodating for that was a learning experience.
What's next for Smart Schooling
Smart Schooling, obviously, was developed in a very short period of time. Give the opportunity for more development, it would include many features, such as a version for teachers, which would allow teachers to collaborate with students for resources/meetings. We would also add a weekly calendar so that tasks are more organized and easy to read. We would also add an option for users to track their life outside of work/school - their down time. That way they can understand the state of their mental wellbeing and take steps to improve it.
