Inspiration
We have always been passionate about tech and improving real world issues so, combining these two we created PathAI
What it does
It enhances navigation for people via AI driven route optimisation. It helps people forsee what routes to take best to avoid traffic
How we built it
We built PathAI by combining real-time data sources, AI models, and a simple user-friendly interface: 1. Data Layer – Integrated OpenWeatherMap API for live weather forecasts, Google Maps/OpenStreetMap for routing, and a crowdsourced reporting system to log potholes and road conditions. 2. AI & Optimization – Used Python (Flask/FastAPI) for backend and implemented a custom route optimization algorithm (modified Dijkstra/A*) that balances speed, safety, and weather risks. 3. Frontend – Developed a mobile-first interface with React Native/Flutter to make the app cross-platform and interactive. 4. Machine Learning – Prototyped a model that predicts pothole-prone zones using historical rain and traffic data. 5. Integration – Connected all services so users can enter a source and destination, and instantly receive three route options: fastest, safest, and balanced.
Challenges we ran into- 1. Integration issues – Making weather, maps, and AI modules work seamlessly together took a lot of debugging 2. API limitations – Free versions of mapping and weather APIs had request limits, so we had to carefully optimize our calls. 3. Route optimization – Balancing multiple factors like traffic, potholes, and weather in real-time required modifying traditional shortest path algorithms.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
To be able to create an algorithm to help people from the mental stress due to roads and working as a team to be able to accomplish this project with limited resources
What we learned
How complex real world issues are and how technology can make a difference. We were also able to develop new skills and test our limits via this project
What's next for "Smart Roads for Smarter Rides"
we want to develop city-level dashboard for authorities to visualize road conditions
