Inspiration
Recycling is very important and can help redirect lots of waste from landfills. It takes less than one minute to put your waste in the correct bin, if we continue to do this the impact is incredible. Our waste is reused to create new items.
What it does
You enter an item you are looking to dispose. The next line will tell you which bin it belongs to or it will tell you check the formating or that you should check the City of Ottawa website because it might be a special item.
How we built it
I used the City Of Ottawa Recycling page to learn which items belong to each bin and created lists. Then with "if else" statements the code checks which list the item belongs to. It will print the correct bin it belongs to or tell you that there is a mistake in a format or that it is most likely a special item that needs to be disposed of in a different way.
Challenges we ran into
Thinking of an idea that was at my skill level was difficult as I am a beginner coder. It was overwhelming as I hadn't done much coding before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that I finished my project and that it works. I'm happy that I pushed myself to do this because it was very interesting.
What we learned
I learned how to use "if else" statements in python and how to "lists". I also learned how to create a very basic code for a practically task.
What's next for Smart Recycling
I should make it more aesthetically pleasing because it doesn't look very nice. I don't know to make graphics in python so if I improve this aspect it would make it better overall.
