What it does
SMART RATION PRO is an IoT and web-based smart ration distribution system that replaces manual ration shop processes. It uses RFID card verification and fingerprint authentication to ensure that only the correct beneficiary receives the ration. A load cell sensor measures the ration quantity accurately, while all transaction and stock details are automatically updated in the centralized database. Beneficiaries can check their remaining ration balance online, and administrators can monitor stock and transactions remotely.
How we built it
We built the system by combining IoT hardware and a web application. The hardware includes an RFID reader, fingerprint sensor, load cell sensor, and microcontroller. The web application manages beneficiary information, stock details, transactions, and monitoring. All components are connected through a network to a centralized database, allowing real-time data updates.
Challenges we ran into
We faced challenges with fingerprint scanning, stable electricity, and internet connectivity. The fingerprint sensor sometimes required proper finger positioning and a dry finger. The load cell also needed regular calibration. Power failures could stop the system, and poor network connectivity could affect real-time record synchronization.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that our system successfully provides secure two-step authentication, accurate ration measurement, automatic transaction recording, and real-time monitoring. During testing, correct users were authenticated in less than three seconds, incorrect fingerprints were rejected, and the load cell showed only a small measurement error. The system also reduces manual errors, duplicate entries, and ration fraud.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how IoT hardware, biometric authentication, sensors, web applications, databases, and network connectivity can work together in a real-world system. We also learned the importance of accurate sensor calibration, reliable power supply, stable internet connectivity, and designing a system that is easy for users to operate.
What's next for SMART RATION PRO: IoT & WEB MODEL FOR PUBLIC WELFARE
In the future, we plan to develop a mobile application so users can check their ration balance from anywhere. We also plan to add offline support for areas with poor internet connectivity, with automatic data synchronization once the connection is restored. Additional security, integration with government databases, voice command support for elderly users, and customization for different ration shops can also be added.
