Inspiration
In our day to day life it's is sometimes not possible to spare the time to provide the necessities needed for the healthy growth of a plant. A plant requires the optimum amount of sunlight,water,minerals,and air to ensure its proper growth.This is where the smart plant grower comes into play. Where it provide more convenient and efficient way to provide the necessities needed for the plant growth automatically.
What it does
It provides automatic watering as required by the plant. It has a protective covering that prevents it from excess rainfall and water logging. A cover to ensure that only optimum amount of sunlight reaches the plant.
How we built it
Building a fully automatic plant growth supporter requires a combination of hardware and software components. The following hardware components were required : a custom PCB to mount the circuit, sensors like a soil moisture sensor for watering the plant, a light sensor to detect and provide the light amount of natural/artificial light, humidity sensors and if needed a pH sensor. Other requirements included a watering system (pump or solenoid valve), LED lights that can be controlled using a program, and a ventilation system. We chose a suitable container to assemble everything.
Then programed the microcontroller to control sensors. Process the obtained data and provide the required amount of light and water. Created a facility for remote monitoring and maintenance of the system.
Challenges we ran into
To keep all the components cover least amount amount of space and making it as light as possible was a great challenge.

We aimed at achieving optimal plant growth and health while minimizing the need for manual care.

What's next for Smart plant grower
We would like to introduce a small rain harvesting system within the smart plant grower where it collects the excess rain water available and uses it later to water the plant.
