Inspiration
The Outpatient Appointment Scheduling Portal with Clinical Priority Sorting was inspired by the challenges patients and healthcare staff face when managing outpatient appointments. Traditional appointment systems often follow a simple first-come, first-served approach, which may not always consider the clinical urgency of a patient's condition. This motivated us to build a system that combines appointment scheduling with clinical priority-based sorting to help ensure that patients with greater medical urgency can receive appropriate attention sooner.
How We Built It
We designed a web-based healthcare portal where patients can register, provide their details, and request outpatient appointments. The system collects relevant clinical information and uses predefined priority criteria to categorize appointments according to urgency.
Healthcare staff can view and manage appointments through an organized interface, making it easier to identify higher-priority cases and manage the patient queue efficiently. The system was developed using modern web technologies, with a focus on a simple, responsive, and user-friendly interface.
What We Learned
Through this project, we gained practical experience in full-stack web development, database management, authentication, appointment scheduling, and healthcare-oriented application design. We also learned how to convert a real-world healthcare problem into a structured software solution while considering usability, data organization, and appropriate clinical prioritization.
Challenges We Faced
One of the major challenges was designing a priority system that could organize appointments based on clinical urgency without making the process unnecessarily complicated. We also faced challenges related to connecting the frontend, backend, and database, handling user authentication, managing appointment data, and ensuring that information was displayed correctly.
Overcoming these challenges helped us improve our problem-solving, debugging, teamwork, and software development skills. Ultimately, the project gave us valuable experience in building a practical healthcare application focused on efficient scheduling and better patient prioritization.
