Inspiration

We were inspired by the challenges students face when preparing for exams using lengthy notes and textbooks. Creating practice questions manually takes time, so we wanted to make revision faster, smarter, and more engaging with AI.

What it does

Smart Notes-to-Quiz Generator transforms PDF study notes into multiple-choice quizzes. Students can practise answering questions, review their performance, understand mistakes through explanations, and identify topics that need further revision.

How we built it

We developed the frontend using React, Vite, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS to create a modern, responsive interface. The backend uses Python and FastAPI to handle PDF processing and communicate with an AI service for question generation. The frontend and backend communicate through REST APIs, with GitHub supporting version control and team collaboration.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was designing a smooth PDF-upload experience and planning reliable communication between the frontend and backend. We also needed to handle invalid files, loading states, API errors, and the integration of quiz generation and scoring while backend development was ongoing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a user-friendly educational application concept that brings note upload, quiz practice, and performance review into one platform. We are proud of developing a responsive interface and establishing a modular structure that allows our team to build the frontend and backend in parallel.

What we learned

We gained practical experience with React, TypeScript, responsive UI development, API integration, GitHub collaboration, and AI-powered application design. We also learned the importance of clear API contracts, validation, and coordinating development across a team.

What's next for Smart Notes-to-Quiz Generator

Our next steps are to complete backend integration, improve AI-generated question quality, implement quiz submission and scoring, and provide explanations and topic-wise revision recommendations. We also plan to deploy the application publicly, test it with students, and explore additional question formats and personalized learning features.
