Inspiration
This project was inspired by the simplicity and usefulness of Google Keep, where quick note-taking meets clean organization. I wanted to extend that idea by adding AI features like summarization and voice playback.
What it does
- Takes raw, messy notes from the user
- Uses AI to generate clear, concise summaries
- Converts summaries into natural-sounding voice
- Saves notes, summaries, and audio for later access
- Allows users to replay or delete saved notes easily
How I built it
I built the project using:
- Flask for the backend
- SQLite for database
- HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript for the frontend
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was handling API integration, especially managing responses, errors, and keeping the app smooth and responsive.
Accomplishments that I'am proud of
- Successfully built a complete end-to-end AI-powered web app
- Integrated Gemini for summarization and ElevenLabs for voice synthesis
- Designed a clean, responsive UI with smooth user experience
- Implemented note saving, playback, and deletion with SQLite
- Completed and demoed the project within my first hackathon
What I learned
This was my first hackathon, and I used APIs like Gemini and ElevenLabs for the first time. It was a great learning experience in integrating real-world AI services into an application.
What's next for Smart Notes
- Add user authentication to sync notes across devices
- Support multiple languages for both text and voice
- Enhance UI with better organization (tags, search, filters)
- Deploy the app online for public access
