Inspiration Local businesses and customers often face difficulties coordinating orders and deliveries, especially when multiple orders are placed from nearby sellers within similar time windows. This inspired us to create Smart Micro-Logistics Management System, a centralized platform that connects customers, local sellers, and delivery agents. Our goal is to make local ordering more organized while reducing unnecessary delivery trips through intelligent order aggregation. What it does The Smart Micro-Logistics Management System provides a unified platform for:
- Customers to browse local sellers, view products, add items to a cart, place orders, schedule deliveries, and track their orders.
- Sellers to manage products, orders, business profiles, delivery preparation, and order aggregation visibility.
- Administrators to manage sellers, customers, orders, delivery agents, delivery batches, routes, notifications, analytics, reports, and system settings.
- Smart order aggregation to identify suitable orders based on delivery dates, overlapping time windows, pickup/drop locations, packaging readiness, and delivery-agent capacity.
- Delivery coordination through delivery batches, agent assignment, status progression, and route visualization. The system follows the concept “Smarter Local Orders. Better Delivery Coordination.” How we built it We built the frontend using React and Vite, with React Router for navigation and role-based route protection. The system uses:
- React components and reusable UI components
- AppContext for centralized application state
- localStorage for mock persistence
- Mock customer, seller, order, and delivery-agent data
- Role-based authentication for Customer, Seller, and Admin
- Responsive dashboards and management pages
- SVG/CSS-based map and route visualizations
- A dedicated aggregation utility for identifying compatible orders
- Mock delivery batches and delivery-agent assignment workflows The implementation was divided into stages, with Stage 1 focusing on customer, seller, and authentication experiences and Stage 2 focusing on centralized admin management, order aggregation, delivery coordination, analytics, and reporting. Challenges we ran into One of the major challenges was designing a single system that could support three different user roles while keeping their workflows separated and secure. Other challenges included:
- Maintaining consistent order and user data across different dashboards
- Implementing role-based route protection
- Designing the shopping cart and multi-seller ordering workflow
- Creating realistic delivery aggregation logic
- Handling overlapping delivery time windows
- Representing delivery batches and agent assignments clearly
- Building route and map visualizations without depending on a real-time mapping backend
- Maintaining frontend state using mock data and localStorage
- Debugging runtime and build issues while integrating multiple new pages and components Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud to have developed a complete multi-role frontend rather than only a basic ordering interface. Key accomplishments include:
- Complete Customer, Seller, and Admin experiences
- Protected role-based dashboards and routes
- Customer registration, login, cart, checkout, orders, and delivery tracking
- Seller order and business management
- Centralized Admin Management System
- Smart Order Aggregation Hub
- Delivery batch creation and driver assignment
- Delivery status progression from pickup to completion
- Multi-stop route visualization
- Delivery-agent management
- Seller/customer account management
- Logistics analytics and reporting interfaces
- Responsive and reusable UI components
- Successful production build verification with npm run build What we learned Through this project, we learned how to design a multi-role logistics platform and manage complex frontend state across different user workflows. We gained practical experience with:
- React application architecture
- Context-based state management
- Protected routing and role authorization
- Component reusability
- Local storage persistence
- E-commerce cart and checkout workflows
- Order lifecycle management
- Delivery aggregation concepts
- Delivery-agent and batch management
- Data visualization
- Debugging and production build verification Most importantly, we learned how individual customer orders can be transformed into coordinated delivery operations through appropriate aggregation rules. What's next for Smart Micro-Logistics Management System The next stage will focus on moving beyond the current frontend/mock implementation toward a fully connected logistics platform. Potential future improvements include:
- Backend API and database integration
- Real user authentication and authorization
- Real-time order and delivery updates
- Google OAuth integration
- Real-time GPS-based delivery tracking
- Integration with mapping and routing APIs
- Advanced route optimization algorithms
- Automated order aggregation
- Real delivery-agent mobile application
- Online payment integration
- SMS/email/push notifications
- More advanced logistics analytics
- Machine-learning-based delivery-demand prediction
- Deployment as a production-ready cloud application
