Inspiration

We noticed that content creators, influencers, and small online business owners struggle to manage multiple links, track conversion metrics, and optimize their landing pages without paying high monthly fees. We wanted to build a fast, affordable, and self-contained SaaS solution that offers all these premium features, including advanced A/B testing and built-in bot protection.

What it does

Smart Link is a comprehensive link management and bio page builder. It allows users to:

• Create shortcodes for long URLs.
• Build custom bio landing pages to host multiple links.
• Monitor real-time analytics (visits, clicks, locations).
• Set up A/B testing variants to automatically find the winning link.
• Guard redirects with advanced bot-protection and block malicious traffic.

How we built it

The platform is built with a modern Full-Stack architecture:

• Frontend: React, Tailwind CSS, Vite, Axios, Lucide Icons.
• Backend: Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB Atlas (for data persistence), Redis (for caching and rate-limiting).
• Deployment: Vercel (for frontend) and Fly.io (for backend).
• APIs: Integration with Brevo for email campaigns and Lemon Squeezy for subscription billing.

Challenges we ran into

One of the major challenges was optimizing redirect speeds while recording click events and detecting bot traffic in real-time. We resolved this by caching redirect links in Redis and running analytics logging asynchronously to keep user redirects under 150ms.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built and deployed a production-ready SaaS application that already has 41 registered users and has tracked over 1,800 clicks organically. We are proud of achieving sub-150ms redirect speeds while keeping the database updated in the background.

What we learned

We learned the importance of caching strategies (using Redis) for high-traffic redirections and how to design clean, responsive UI/UX for creators who access the platform primarily on mobile devices.

What's next for Smart Link

We plan to introduce AI-powered suggestions for link titles and bio page color schemes, as well as integrating deeper conversion pixel analytics (like Facebook and Google Pixel).
