We were inspired by the fact that many small shop owners still rely on traditional paper khatas to track daily income and expenses, which often leads to mistakes, lost records, and poor financial planning.
To solve this, we built Smart Khata, an AI-powered multilingual digital ledger that helps shopkeepers record transactions, visualize spending through charts, set budget goals, and receive Gemini-based smart financial insights.
We built the project using HTML, Tailwind CSS, JavaScript, Chart.js, LocalStorage, and Google Gemini API. During development, we learned how to integrate AI into real-world finance use cases, design multilingual interfaces, and create meaningful business analytics.
One of the biggest challenges was combining simple usability for non-technical users with advanced AI-powered features like automatic categorization and financial summaries.
The final result is a practical solution that transforms manual bookkeeping into smart, data-driven financial management for small businesses.
