Inspiration
We were inspired by rising home energy costs and how hard it is to see their financial impact. We wanted to help people understand and manage their energy spending through actionable insights.
What it does
Smart Home Savings Dashboard collects temperature and humidity data from a Raspberry Pi, calculates energy costs and mold risk, and displays it on a responsive dashboard. Users can log in , set financial goals, and receive alerts to help them save money and maintain a safe, comfortable home.
How we built it
We used a Raspberry Pi with sensors, a Flask backend, Firebase for storing data, and a React frontend. and the dashboard updates to show readings, alerts, and user goals.
Challenges we ran into
We faced CORS issues, real-time dashboard updating challenges, and integrating authentication with goal management in React.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a full-stack IoT-finance app with secure login, real-time updates, and actionable alerts that users can rely on to manage home costs.
What we learned
We learned how to combine IoT hardware, backend APIs, and frontend interfaces, handle authentication, and turn raw sensor data into meaningful financial insights.
What's next for Smart Home Investing
Future plans include graphical trends of energy use, predictive cost modeling, and expanding alerts to include more smart-home devices, making the dashboard even more powerful for financial decision-making.
