Inspiration
Managing home inventory and keeping track of everyday household supplies can be tedious. We were inspired to create a seamless solution that connects smart security vision with the main display in every home—the TV screen.
What it does
Smart Home Inventory and Vision uses camera feeds from Ring devices to track household items, recognize visual changes in inventory levels, and send real-time alerts or updates directly to Fire TV screens without interrupting playback.
How we built it
Integrated Ring APIs and camera vision feeds to analyze household items. Developed a Fire OS application using web technologies and React Native for TV screens. Utilized AWS services to process image data and deliver low-latency notifications.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring low latency when transmitting video analysis alerts to Fire TV while playing media, as well as fine-tuning object detection across different lighting conditions. Accomplishments that we're proud of Creating a non-intrusive alert system on Fire TV that keeps family members informed about home supplies in real time.
What we learned
Gained deep hands-on experience building multi-device workflows across Fire OS and Ring developer tools.
What's next for Smart Home Inventory and Vision
Adding Alexa+ voice interactions so users can check inventory levels or add items to a shopping list hands-free using simple voice commands
