Inspiration

Taking a book from library requires more work, such as scanning student ID cards and the bar code of the book to update the availability of the received books. We want to build a system where the books uses an RFID sensor which gets update automatically when we place or remove a book from it's place.

What it does

We are making the library, play ground and sports equipment of our college easily accessibly by asking a chat bot which pulls up the information of the availability of these and let the user know.

How we built it

We are building a platform where there will be less man power for scanning the bar codes. We are replacing the bar codes with RFID sensor, RFID sensor will be placed on the books and when someone places the book in the shelf the receiver detects the sensor and stores the book information on the website. When a student borrows a book from the shelf, RFID updates the time and date on the website and starts the timer till one can keep the book. Once the stipulate time passed and the students didn't returned the book, an automated email will be triggered to the library management and the student along the late fee information, this can also be viewed on the website.

If someone is away from the play ground or equipment of sports it is sometimes quite difficult to find out a play ground/court is available to play. So to overcome this problem we are making a system where we are using IR sensor to detect the moment on the play ground, which is gets updated on the website as the play ground is occupied if the IR sensor sends a value and vice versa. Now for the sports equipment we are following the same method as we used in the smart library to track the availability of the books.

Now the main point is how to check the availability of these components on the website? To solve this we are integrating a chat bot on the website which serves couple of pre-written options to choose from. We have to select the given option by the bot such as book availability, play ground occupancy and equipment's status.

Challenges we ran into

To register books or sports equipment on RFID and to attach it on them requires a lot of work in the start.

Sometimes IR sensors mistakes people just passing by the play ground, which updates the false information on the court's availability on the website. We can overcome this problem by increasing the time limit of person who stays on the play ground.
