Inspiration

Modern inboxes are overloaded with spam, phishing attempts, promotions, and low-priority emails. Many users struggle to identify dangerous emails quickly, while also spending too much time replying to repetitive messages.

We wanted to create a simple AI-powered assistant capable of helping users better understand, prioritize, and respond to emails in a smarter and safer way.

What it does

SmartMail Guardian analyzes emails using AI and automatically classifies them into categories such as:

  • Important
  • Scam
  • Spam
  • Promotion
  • Low Priority

The platform also provides:

  • AI-generated email summaries
  • Threat/risk explanations
  • Smart reply suggestions for legitimate emails

This helps users save time while improving digital safety and inbox organization.

How we built it

The project was built using:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

The interface simulates a modern inbox dashboard where users can analyze emails and receive AI-powered insights.

AI prompts were designed to classify emails, detect suspicious patterns, explain risks, and generate contextual responses.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was designing a clean and simple workflow while keeping the AI interactions understandable and useful.

Another challenge was balancing cybersecurity analysis with usability, ensuring the platform remained beginner-friendly and practical.

What we learned

During this project, we learned:

  • how AI can improve email productivity and security
  • how intelligent classification systems work
  • how to design AI-assisted user experiences
  • how to structure a fast MVP for a hackathon environment

What's next for Mail Guardian

In the future, we would like to:

  • connect real email providers (Gmail/Outlook)
  • add real-time phishing detection
  • improve AI accuracy
  • add multilingual support
  • create browser and mobile integrations
