Inspiration

Managing personal finances is something most people struggle with, especially students and young professionals. We often spend money without realizing where it goes. This inspired us to build a smart solution that not only tracks expenses but also provides meaningful insights to improve financial habits.

What it does

Smart Expense Tracker is an intelligent web-based application that allows users to:

  • Log daily expenses easily
  • Automatically categorize expenses using smart detection
  • Visualize spending through interactive charts
  • Analyze total spending, monthly trends, and top categories
  • Export data and manage expense history efficiently

How we built it

We built the project using a full-stack approach:

  • Frontend: HTML, advanced CSS (glassmorphism UI), and JavaScript with Chart.js
  • Backend: PHP API for handling requests and processing data
  • Database: MySQL for storing and managing expense records
  • Server: XAMPP (Apache + MySQL) for local development

We also implemented features like local storage fallback, dynamic UI updates, and responsive design for better user experience.
