Achieving Net-Zero in Telecom

Managing energy in the telecom sector is a complex challenge. Traditional electricity grids can be unreliable in certain regions, which forces operators to rely on alternative sources, such as solar power or diesel generators. However, each of these options comes with trade-offs. Solar power is clean and renewable but not always available due to weather conditions. Diesel generators are reliable but expensive and harmful to the environment. Additionally, battery storage plays a role, but the parameters for charging and discharging batteries add another layer of complexity.

The energy supply chain in telecom is further complicated by the need for constant uptime. Telecom operators can’t afford power outages, which means energy management strategies must prioritize reliability alongside sustainability. This balancing act creates a pressing need for a more intelligent and efficient approach to energy management—one that accounts for cost, emissions, availability, and risk.

What it does

Our solution is designed to tackle these challenges head-on by leveraging advanced AI techniques to create an optimal energy supply strategy. The system not only determines the most efficient energy source to use at any given time but also offers risk mitigation recommendations to minimize overall energy costs while meeting the demand for continuous power. The solution uses predictive analytics and optimization algorithms to forecast energy needs (load) and supply, and determine the best time to use each energy source. The solution also makes use of generative AI to provide risk mitigation strategies based on the recommended strategy. This allows the system to offer insights into potential risks—such as underutilization of battery storage or over reliance on grid —and recommend proactive steps to avoid costly disruptions.
