Inspiration

One of the most common ways germs spread is through door handles. Even after we wash our hand properly, if we touch the uncleaned door handle, germs spread. So, our project solves this problem.

What it does

We built a device that decontaminates door handles automatically using a UVC light.

How we built it

We built this project with Arduino, an Ultrasonic Distance Sensor, UVC radiating light, and two servos.

Normally the door handle is covered by a box; when some approach the box, a distance sensor detects it and uncover the handle. When no one approaching the inside covered hood, UVC radiation kills germs.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was to implement the project. Since its lockdown, here we have no means to get the parts to build the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are delighted that we could build something that can help fight this pandemic on a personal level.

What we learned

We learned how to manage team work remotely.

What's next for Smart Door Handle Sanitizer

As soon as lockdown is over, we plan to get every components and setup some prototypes on the hostel's door handles.
