Inspiration
Our Hack, Smart Class is a virtual classroom environment. Today, as this pandemic has surged, the need of technologies to support the remote education and work methods have also increased significantly. In spite of having such a huge demand, there aren't many players in the market who provide it all and who are enough to meet the requirements of the students. For eg: One of the major problems that the people face in remote meetings/classes is that they don't provide facilities to automatically mark the attendance or whether the organizer/teacher can check whether a person is present in the meeting at any given time i.e. he has not just joined the meeting and not paying attendance. For this, the teachers/organizers use different methods, but they all take some time due to which some time of the class is wasted. There are more problems like these which occur in the meetings. To solve these kinds of issues, we thought of building a prototype through which we can solve these issues.
What it does
As it is a virtual class environment, it provides the facilities to host a classroom. The teacher can create a classroom and then he/she can add the other members of the class. They can communicate with each other and post announcements and study materials in the class. We're also trying to add the video call facility to hold virtual meetings in the class.
How we built it
The app is currently built with the React Native in the front end technology and by using the firebase at the backend technology.
Challenges we ran into
There were quite a few challenges that we faced while building this app. The primary ones were to decide the architecture of the app. There were quite a few functionalities and features that we wanted to add to this application, but due to the limited time and also the unavailability of the resources, it was quite difficult to add them all here. So we've implemented only some basic functionalities here. The other challenge was the lack of knowledge about the tech stack. We had a basic introduction about the tech stack, but we never built something like this before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of what we've built so far in the given time and we're planning to improve it further. We're proud that we faced every challenge with a straight face, overcame them and finally built something like this.
What's next for Smart Class
The future of this product is going to be very exciting. We're planning to take this further from just a prototype to a full fledged idea. We're planning to add more functionalities like video conferencing, audio conferencing, notes taking etc in this application and release is as a product.
