Inspiration

Visit Leuven wants an innovative, digital tool to attract quality tourists who are interested in the 4 main focuses of Leuven :

  • Beer and Taste
  • Art and Culture
  • Religious and Historic heritage
  • Knowledge, Innovation and University

What it does

Upon installation, the user is greeted with a welcome screen. The application asks the user what his/her preferences are. Based on these preferences the app will show anonymous points of interest on a compass to discover Leuven in an adventurous way. When you're nearing a poi, a list pops up with the places nearby where you can listen to the digital guide. Now the user has the option to learn more about frequently asked questions, listed by the app. Afterwards, the user has the option to take a quiz where rewards can be won.

How we built it

the API is read through REST get commands, on which javascript is used to query the relevant information of longitude, latitude, name of the venue and its corresponding ID. This information is stored in mongoDB and being read by the back-end system which checks the coordinates of the current location of the device with the location of the venues. When the difference in distance between current location and location of a venue is lower than 100 meter, they are shown on the app and information can be acquired, in the form of audio (.mp3) files. The links to the audio files corresponding to a venue are also stored in mongoDB.

m## Challenges we ran into Getting interaction with the database The development of the app itself (not everybody had enough/relevant programming knowledge)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We deliver some meaningful USP's and we think that we came up with a innovative idea when it comes to getting the attention of the high-end tourist, by not bombarding them with information but rather
