About the Project

Our Smart Campus Energy & HVAC Optimization project was inspired by a simple problem: college buildings often consume electricity even when classrooms, laboratories, and other spaces are partially occupied or unused. HVAC systems can also continue operating without considering occupancy, weather, or peak energy demand.

We wanted to create a solution that makes campus energy management more intelligent, efficient, and automated. Our platform combines real-time energy monitoring, occupancy information, environmental data, weather forecasting, and analytics to understand building energy usage and identify unnecessary consumption.

We designed a centralized dashboard to monitor energy consumption, temperature, humidity, occupancy, and HVAC status. The system analyzes this information and supports automatic HVAC adjustment during low-occupancy periods and high-demand situations.

During development, we learned about IoT-based monitoring, energy analytics, HVAC optimization, data visualization, automation, and dashboard development. We also learned how different building conditions can affect energy consumption and how data can be used to make better control decisions.

One of the main challenges was designing the system so that multiple parameters could be considered together instead of relying only on current temperature. Integrating occupancy and weather forecast information into the decision-making process was another important challenge.

Our goal is to help educational institutions reduce energy waste, lower electricity costs, improve HVAC efficiency, and move towards smarter and more sustainable buildings.
