1) Inspiration:- Inspired by 10+ years in procurement, I saw the need to eliminate manual vendor selection, quotation comparison, and PO creation. Smart Buy was born to bring AI and automation into everyday procurement tasks for better speed, accuracy, and cost control. 2) What it does:- Smart Buy is an AI-based procurement assistant that automates vendor evaluation, quotation analysis, and PO generation. It helps procurement teams make faster, smarter, and data-driven purchasing decisions. 3) How we built it:- As a fresher, I built Smart Buy using simple tools like HTML, JavaScript, and Python. I used basic machine learning to rank vendors and simple forms to input data. I learned from online tutorials and built each part step-by-step to create a working AI-based procurement tool. 4) Challenges we ran into:- As a fresher, I faced many challenges like cleaning messy procurement data, understanding how to compare vendor quotes, and connecting AI tools with my project. It was tough to make OCR work with different quotation formats. I also struggled with building a smooth and user-friendly interface.
5) Accomplishments that we're proud of:- As a fresher, I’m proud to have built a working AI-based procurement assistant from scratch. I learned how to score vendors, analyze quotes, and generate purchase orders automatically. Successfully connecting different tools and creating a user-friendly interface was a big achievement for me. 6) What we learned:- As a fresher, I learned how AI can improve procurement by automating vendor selection, analyzing quotations, and generating purchase orders. I gained hands-on experience with OCR, basic ML, and full-stack development. I also learned how to plan a project and build a user-friendly solution step-by-step. 7) What's next for Smart Buy: AI-Based Procurement Assistant:- Smart Buy is just the beginning of a long journey toward transforming the procurement process through automation and intelligence. While the current version handles basic vendor scoring, quotation analysis, and automated purchase order generation, there is still a lot of potential to scale and improve the platform.

  1. Advanced AI Integration In the next phase, I plan to integrate more advanced machine learning algorithms that not only score vendors but also predict risks such as supplier delays, non-compliance, and quality issues. These insights will help procurement teams proactively manage their supplier base and avoid disruptions.

  2. ERP System Integration To make Smart Buy more useful for real-world businesses, I aim to integrate it with popular ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, and Zoho. This will enable seamless data exchange between procurement teams and the rest of the organization, eliminating the need for manual data entry and enhancing efficiency.

  3. Mobile App Development A mobile-friendly version of Smart Buy is also on the roadmap. Procurement professionals often need to approve POs, check vendor performance, or review quotations on the go. A responsive mobile app will allow them to access insights and take action anytime, anywhere.

  4. Supplier Collaboration Portal Future versions will include a dedicated portal for suppliers, allowing them to submit quotations, update certifications, track payments, and respond to queries directly within Smart Buy. This two-way interaction will improve communication and reduce procurement cycle times.

  5. Spend Analysis & Cost Optimization I plan to build a more powerful analytics engine to help businesses monitor spending patterns, identify opportunities to consolidate purchases, and negotiate better deals. Dashboards will include customizable KPIs and cost-saving insights.

  6. Sustainability & ESG Scoring Sustainable sourcing is becoming critical in modern procurement. I aim to integrate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) scoring to help companies choose vendors based on sustainability criteria, supporting ethical and responsible sourcing practices.

  7. Chat-Based Procurement Assistant The Open AI-powered assistant currently handles basic queries. I want to enhance this to become a full-fledged procurement chatbot that can answer complex questions, assist in real-time negotiations, and provide data-driven recommendations in natural language.

  8. Global Supplier Marketplace Over time, Smart Buy can evolve into a global supplier marketplace where buyers and sellers interact, post requirements, and receive AI-matched opportunities based on capabilities, certifications, and past performance. In Summary: The next version of Smart Buy will focus on scaling, integration, and deepening AI capabilities. The goal is to make it a comprehensive digital procurement platform for businesses of all sizes. I am committed to continuous learning and improvement, and I look forward to turning Smart Buy into a real-world solution that makes procurement smarter, faster, and more strategic.
