Inspiration
Nowadays, most trash cans are set to be fixed at one location. It is not convenient that people need to aim for the trash can when throwing trash or must walk to the trash can. It is our goal to make a convenient trash can so that people won’t have this kind of problems. Therefore, we try to build a trash can that can automatically follow its owner and turn on different LEDs to indicates remaining capacity of the trash can and can sound a buzzer when the trash can is full.
What it does
This smart automatic trash can could follow the owner in a proper distance when it is not full. Besides, it can automatically open the lid when detects a nearby object. Furthermore, it has some LEDs show the remaining capacity and remind its owner to take out the trash using LED and buzzer when full.
How we built it
We use 3 Arduino UNO to achieve these functions. One to control the servo motor, the second one to control the 4 DC motors to achieve following functions, the third one to achieve the capacity detection. As for the power, we use two 9.6V flat NiMH battery packs to supply these 3 UNOs and motors.
What's next for Smart Automatic Trash Can
Can add a LCD to show the remaining capacity of the trash can. The trash can’s physical body could be improved.
