Inspiration
Applying to universities abroad is complex and overwhelming, with over 6,000 schools in the U.S. alone. Most students lack the experience to evaluate their own profiles, choose the right schools, or build an effective application strategy. As a result, they make decisions blindly—either aiming too high or settling too low.
What it does
ETEST Smart Admission AI is an AI-powered platform that helps students make smarter admission decisions. By inputting their profile, students receive:
- Top 10 best-fit universities
- Admission probability (Reach / Target / Safety)
- Clear explanations for each recommendation
- Actionable suggestions to improve their chances The system also allows admins/counselors to add real-world insights, helping the AI continuously improve and reflect real admission strategies.
How we built it
We built a hybrid system combining:
- Structured scoring (academic, activities, fit)
- AI reasoning (LLM) for explanation and evaluation Tech stack:
- Frontend: Next.js + TailwindCSS
- Backend: FastAPI
- AI: LLM for profile analysis and explainable outputs
Challenges we ran into
- Translating holistic admission logic into a structured AI system
- Ensuring outputs are explainable, not generic
- Balancing realism with limited data in a hackathon setting
