Inspiration
We were inspired by how it can be difficult for some people to start or maintain conversations, especially those with social anxiety.
What it does
Smalltalk gamifies the experience of starting new conversations with new people! We designed it to alleviate some social anxiety that comes with communicating and making new friends. In the age of COVID and lockdowns, we figured that adjusting back to normal life would be difficult, so Smalltalk is here to help!
How we built it
We used REACT as our frontend framework and REACT bootstrap for styling. Our missions aka conversation starters are stored on Google's Firebase real time database and are pulled and updated dynamically.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out with technologies to use together was daunting but GCP and REACT worked well together!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Started this project almost halfway through the hackaton but were still able to finish. The GCP award of course!
What we learned
REACT development. How to manage state, props, components, etc GCP is a wonderful tool for full stack development. A toolbox with infinite tools!
