Inspiration Procrastination is often misunderstood as laziness or lack of discipline.
In my own experience, I noticed that when I avoid starting a task, it’s usually because it feels emotionally overwhelming — not because I don’t care.

Most productivity tools focus on doing more, tracking progress, or staying consistent. Very few pause to ask why starting feels hard.

Small Wins was inspired by the idea that sometimes what people need isn’t motivation or pressure, but permission to start gently. I wanted to explore whether a soft, compassionate approach could help people take action without guilt.

What it does

Small Wins is a gentle anti-procrastination micro coach.

The app:

  • Asks the user what they’re avoiding
  • Breaks it down into one tiny, manageable action
  • Starts a 5-minute focus timer
  • Ends with a kind reflection instead of pressure or productivity shame

There are no streaks, no metrics, and no expectations to do more.
The goal is simply to help someone begin — and feel okay about it.

How I built it

Small Wins is a lightweight single-page web application built with simplicity and emotional clarity in mind.

  • The UI uses soft pastel colors and calm typography to create a safe, non-intimidating space
  • All logic runs on the client side
  • A simple timer manages the 5-minute focus session
  • Reflection messages are selected dynamically to keep the experience human and supportive

The project prioritizes experience design over complexity, keeping the flow intentional and distraction-free. Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was knowing what not to build.

It was tempting to add features like task tracking, analytics, or productivity scores — but those would have gone against the core philosophy of the app.

Another challenge was language. Small changes in wording had a big impact on how the experience felt. I spent a lot of time making sure the tone stayed supportive, gentle, and non-judgmental.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Creating a complete, functional product within a short time frame
  • Designing an emotionally intelligent user experience
  • Successfully reframing procrastination as overwhelm, not failure
  • Building something small but meaningful that people can immediately use

What we learned

This project reinforced that:

  • Emotional design is just as important as functionality
  • Compassion can be a powerful productivity tool
  • Small steps genuinely matter

I also learned that sometimes the most impactful projects aren’t the most complex — they’re the most human.

What's next for Small Wins - Anti-Procrastination Micro Coach

Future ideas include:

  • Optional daily gentle reminders
  • Custom reflection messages
  • Accessibility improvements
  • A mobile-first version

Most importantly, I want to keep Small Wins true to its core idea: starting softly is still starting.
