Inspiration
When the pandemic started, my sister started her own business in LA to sell handmade crystal and gemstone jewelry. She currently sells and ships her customized products through many means (like Facebook and Instagram), but she didn't have a website for her business since she doesn't know how to code, like me until I joined the Bloom Fellowship program at UCLA. I wanted to use my new knowledge to help promote her business by creating a simple yet beautiful website that brings these multiple platforms together onto one place.
What it does
This website provides a short background to my sister's small business, showcases previous orders, and lists the kinds of products and materials available for orders. The previous orders are embedded links to the Facebook posts where orders can be made. At the very bottom, there is an additional link to Instagram where my sister also takes customized orders.
How I built it
I built this website by creating html, css, and js files in visual studio code and then uploading the entire folder to github.
Challenges I ran into
I struggled with creating the code in general due to the different notation and terms that are used for html versus css versus js.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of having created a website that actually works. I was able to upload a final project that shows how much I learned through Bloom.
What I learned
I learned how to write code for html, css, and js files, how to link html, css, and js files together, and how to create a shareable website link through github.
What's next for Small Business Website: Crystals By Brianna
I hope to further work on and enhance this website aesthetically and functionally so that my sister can further strive in her small business.
