Small Business Feeder enables small businesspeople to track federal funding programs using their desktop e-mail clients, thus enabling extraordinarily high visibility for existing content and automatic updating.
Small Business Feeder is a server-based app that synthesizes a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed from xml output of the "Loans and Grants Search API" found under sba.gov/api ( Specific URL is http://api.sba.gov/loans_grants/federal.xml ). Users need not divulge their e-mail addresses and may subscribe or unsubscribe at will. So, while many of the benefits of an e-mail product are available, the logistical and legal/privacy concerns associated with e-mail are reduced or eliminated.
Obviously, RSS feeds have been around a long time on the websites of major news organizations, large corporations, and even some government agencies. In fact, the grants.gov website currently has RSS feeds available that include opportunities at sbir.gov and green.sba.gov.
It is hoped that Small Business Feeder will encourage webmasters for small business-related sites to initiate and/or expand RSS offerings.
