SLYLY: A Fun Raccoon-Themed Collect & Run Game
Inspiration
I love raccoons! 🦝❤️🐾 They’re smart, curious, and always getting into mischief, which inspired this game.
What It Does
SLYLY is an exciting collect-and-run game where you navigate through levels as fast as possible. Your goal is to collect treats and treasures while avoiding dangers. Watch out for cats and dogs—startle a cat, and it might wake the dog, who’ll chase you! You start with three lives (❤️❤️❤️).
How We Built It
The game was built using Bolt.New, which made coding a fun and creative experience. The simple yet addictive concept came together smoothly, and I secured the perfect domain name through Entri, which also handled the website launch directly from Bolt—super easy!
Challenges We Faced
- Mobile Screen Size: I struggled with the game displaying only a small portion of the screen on mobile devices. Despite trying multiple fixes, this issue persists.
- Background Graphics: Creating and uploading background maps for each level was challenging, as I had to do it manually. I’m hopeful for automated solutions in the future.
- Smooth Movement: Achieving fluid character movement was tricky and required fine-tuning.
Accomplishments We’re Proud Of
As someone who’s not a traditional coder but a "vibe coder," I’m thrilled to have turned a creative idea into a playable game. Watching it come to life was incredibly rewarding. Most importantly, I loved sharing this vibe-coding experience with my kids, sparking their creativity for future projects.
What We Learned
I discovered Bolt’s "Discuss" feature, which lets you troubleshoot issues, explore tools, and get suggestions for techniques or fixes. It’s a game-changer for problem-solving!
What’s Next for SLYLY
The plan is to launch SLYLY on the app store, but first, I need to resolve the mobile screen size bugs to ensure a smooth experience for players.
