Inspiration
We can always see the element of "dungeons" in many different games, like Pokémon and Zelda. Also, one of the world popular games has included "dungeons" in its name. Yes, it is "Dungeons & Dragons". Since "dungeons" is one of the famous topics in the game industry, we decided to create a small game with this topic.
What it does
Slime Escape is a really simple game that player needs to control a white slime to escape the room. However, the only exit is blocked by the king of slime! It seems like there is no way the white slime can be escaped...
How we built it
We used C++ to implement Slime Escape. Besides, we also used the HackersNest API provided by Ubisoft Toronto.
Challenges we ran into
The HackersNest API was hard for us to learn since it is complicated and none of us was familiar with C++. We spent too much time on learning C++ and the API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a game that players can control a character and created all assets (we created more than we needed) for the game within that 36 hours.
What I learned
From this project, we learnt a lot about game development. This is a very special experience since we did not learn anything about game development from school and moreover, game development is not our fields! Also, we increased our knowledge of C++ - we used something we did not try before in this project.
What's next for Slime Escape
We hope to continue developing (or even rebuild) Slime Escape. We created 10 different colours of slimes but we only used two of them in this game. We also created a few items to add in the game. In fact, our original plan was also including solving puzzles. We want to make our original plan be true and make Slime Escape more interesting.
